The Civil War, in 1861, was a 4 year long battle between the North and South. The North, Union, was fighting for the abolition of slavery. While the South, Confederates, was fighting to keep slavery. The Union consist of California, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts,
Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Wisconsin. The Confederate states were Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. These confederate states seceded from the Union to join the rebellious Confederacy. Throughout several battle and over 620,000 deaths and many more casualties, the Confederacy finally surrendered. The battles of this war, some big and some small, were fought in Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. Most battles took place in Virginia.
