Abraham lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was the President of the United States and the Union during the Civil War. He led the Union to victory, and authored the Emancipation Proclamation. He kept the Union prepared and under control during the civil war. He was a soft-spoken but very influential president. He supported and tried to reform the Union and stop the spread of slavery.
Ulysses s. grant
Ulysses S. Grant was dedicated to win control over the Mississippi River. He took Fort Donelson in 1862 which sparked the Union victories. When the Confederate commander asked for terms, Grant replied, "No terms except an unconditional and immediate surrender can be accepted." Grant was a dedicated and strong Union general. He was strategic and victorious throughout his time spent during the Civil War.
Robert e. LEe
General Robert E. Lee was fighting for the Confederate army after declining Lincoln's offer to fight against his own people for the Union. He commanded the Confederates in Northern Virginia. Lee and Grant were equal on the battle field creating a gruesome match up during the bloodiest one-day battle of Antietem.
Thomas "stonewall" Jackson
Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson fought for the Confederates and beside Robert E. Lee. He led the Shenandoah Valley campaign. He fought in the Seven Days' Battle and the First and Second Battles of Bull Run. He was a very strong leader, hence the name "Stonewall". He got the name from one southern officer who cried, "There is Jackson standing like a stone wall!"
Clara Barton
Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross, obtained and administrated supplies for the Union troops. She also provided care and medical attention to Union Soldiers. She was a giving women, and was always helping the less fortunate. She gave her efforts and attention to helping those in need whether it was during the war, abroad, or with the needy around her.
