Emancipation Proclamation:
The Emancipation Proclamation was an order, written by Abraham Lincoln in 1862, to free the Confederate slaves. It was made so the enslaved African Americans can have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It was important to the slaves because they were being abused by their owners, and considered property. There was so many slaves on one plantation that the owner ended up running away. The slaves were so happy that they were free, but the Northerners were paranoid. They were afraid that slaves would invade the North, and take their jobs. Although the Emancipation Proclamation freed the slaves, some slaves didn't find out until about six months later. The slave owners tried to keep the good news away from them. Slavery still existed in the loyal slave states, though.
